BEST BOOK IN AGES! WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING BY DELIA OWENS

36809135  For years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life–until the unthinkable happens.

Perfect for fans of Barbara Kingsolver and Karen Russell, Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps (Goodreads).

Ma. Lane's Thoughts: This was simply one of the best books I've ever read! Delia Owens is able to weave words and sentences into a true work of art. Her descriptions of the marsh and creatures who live there are breathtaking. In addition, there is suspense, beauty, sadness, and indescribable moments of joy and pain. I never wanted to leave Kya's world! Some of these sentences and the images they create will forever be embedded on the walls of my heart. Truly excellent!

Welcome Back for 2019!

Welcome back Spartans! Another year of reading is ahead of us. Already, the Page Turners Book Club is getting ready to pick a new novel. I will be blogging about that choice next week. Over the summer I read a great book called Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys. If you like historical fiction, which I do, you will enjoy this book.

Summary: World War II is drawing to a close in East Prussia and thousands of refugees are on a desperate trek toward freedom, many with something to hide. Among them are Joana, Emilia, and Florian, whose paths converge en route to the ship that promises salvation, the Wilhelm Gustloff. Forced by circumstance to unite, the three find their strength, courage, and trust in each other tested with each step closer to safety.

Just when it seems freedom is within their grasp, tragedy strikes. Not country, nor culture, nor status matter as all ten thousand people—adults and children alike—aboard must fight for the same thing: survival. (goodreads).
