PAGE TURNERS BOOK CLUB

Hello Spartans,

This is the first installment for the 2022/23 school year for The Page Turners Book Club. We had a great year last year reading and discussing books while enjoying delectable treats. Our first book this year is going to be Blindness by Jose Saramago. It was suggested by one of our members and we all voted to read it fairly unanimously!

Hello Spartans! This is the first installment for the 2021/22 school year for our Page Turners Book Club. The club is doing well, and meeting regularly to discuss our first book which was The Silent Patient. This book is a mystery, and while we didn't all love the novel, we all found it intriguing. It is now available in our library at Sheldon. I honestly feel this novel would be better as a movie, and I wouldn't be surprised if a movie is made. On to the description....!

Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.

Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London.

Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations—a search for the truth that threatens to consume him....

The Silent Patient is a shocking psychological thriller of a woman’s act of violence against her husband—and of the therapist obsessed with uncovering her motive.

Hello Spartans!
Our book club has now  finished our second book which was The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. We almost all LOVED this one, and for the FIRST TIME IN BOOK CLUB HISTORY, we are reading the sequel! I think everyone should check this one out. What would you do if you suddenly inherited 42 billion dollars?!

Meet Avery Grambs!

A Cinderella story with deadly stakes and thrilling twists.

Avery Grambs has a plan for a better future: survive high school, win a scholarship, and get out. But her fortunes change in an instant when billionaire Tobias Hawthorne dies and leaves Avery virtually his entire fortune. The catch? Avery has no idea why--or even who Tobias Hawthorne is. To receive her inheritance, Avery must move into sprawling, secret passage-filled Hawthorne House, where every room bears the old man's touch--and his love of puzzles, riddles, and codes.

Unfortunately for Avery, Hawthorne House is also occupied by the family that Tobias Hawthorne just dispossessed. This includes the four Hawthorne grandsons: dangerous, magnetic, brilliant boys who grew up with every expectation that one day, they would inherit billions. Heir apparent Grayson Hawthorne is convinced that Avery must be a con-woman, and he's determined to take her down. His brother, Jameson, views her as their grandfather's last hurrah: a twisted riddle, a puzzle to be solved. Caught in a world of wealth and privilege, with danger around every turn, Avery will have to play the game herself just to survive (goodreads.com).

Hello Spartans! I'm excited to tell you about the latest book we read in the Page Turners Book Club. This is the best book we've read so far, and we are so excited about it we want to read more books by this author. The book is called The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. If you like old Hollywood glamour, you'll love this book!

Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now?

Monique is not exactly on top of the world. Her husband has left her, and her professional life is going nowhere. Regardless of why Evelyn has selected her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career.

Summoned to Evelyn’s luxurious apartment, Monique listens in fascination as the actress tells her story. From making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the ‘80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way, Evelyn unspools a tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love. Monique begins to feel a very real connection to the legendary star, but as Evelyn’s story near its conclusion, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways (Goodreads.com)
